Ok, you missed Fela! and you're kiling yourself for having missed it in NY AND DC! (I'm in this category)
So you are hoping to catch some of the magic just being in the room. (Maybe you're gonna rent a portable sweat lodge and transport yourself to the spirit world just outside the venue and then come in and the aura will transport you to a place where Fela's love for the people reigns supreme.)

Ummm...not good. This leaves only one category. (and a pitiful category it is.)

You don't know who or what Fela! or Fela is. (????)
Uh...we're not sure we can help you, but if you can be helped...this is your only chance. So come out with an open mind and get ready to dance.

What's that? No there's no other categories, obviously. If you know who Fela is then you must have wanted to go see the show or you DID see it.
So...Once again. Which is it? 1,2 or 3.

My guess is the 1's and 2's will dominate.

Oh yes....I guess there is a fourth category, but from what I know all those people will be here. The production itself.

All the people on stage and behind it, in the pit, writers, directors, etc. We love you and thank you for your artistry. It is unparalleled and greatly appreciated. DC will never forget your expression of the continuation of Fela's spirit and vision.

It's About Time - The Return of WONDER-Full

Over 5 years ago, when we first closed the deal to take over the space that is now Liv, we started talking through programming with potential partners, etc. To give them an idea of the breadth of events that we would like to be doing. One of the events that I put out there as one of the parties I hoped to be able to do was Wonder-Full.

We brought this party to DC for the first time in Nov '07. It's history is long and storied and maybe peaked the night after our first party, when Stevie Wonder himself attended the NY edition after his performance at Madison Square Garden. I got a text from Spinna early am. It made my day.

This party started after the cult response to Wonder Wrote It....a mixtape by Bobbito and DJ Spinna. (I sent a friend who was working at Billboard at the time, to Fatbeats to buy myself and her one of the highly sought after and hard to get Wonder Wrote It double CDs. Word is that no one in the Billboard office did any more work that afternoon.)

Our second edition in DC was on Inauguration Eve 2009 leading into Obama's historic day here in DC. Bananas. Spinna text me early the morning after election night. Sold! Couldn't think of a better fit. Rosie Perez and Spike Lee's people were calling to get tix...We were sold out and tix were on craiglist for $200. It was like we had transported the club to NY. I remember the music cut back by the DJ standing outside the building in the cold and hearing the entire building..all four floors, singing Stevie's songs time and time again...acapella...loud and clear.

It's been far too long. So the return is here.

Sat Oct 8th. WONDER-Full is back.

Reminisce: Just A Good Damn Time

So...it's been a long time coming. We have gathered together one of the funniest and most social teams on the planet to put together, what we describe as Just A Good Damn Time. This party will be here for your savior at the first Sat monthly. Did anyone else get touched and wonder why in the hell music isn't as good after seeing Beats Rhymes and Life (Tribe Called Quest Doc)? Well it still is....all that music is still here. And you'll get to hear it all night long.

Now on to the starting lineup:

First up we got the man around your friendly neighborhood blog, Very Smart Brothas, none other than Panama Jackson himself. He's also a musical fanatic with discerning tastes. And most people 10 out of 10 find him rather amusing in a non laughing AT him type of way. All his events tend to have a strangely heavy women attendance. Not sure how that happens, but that leads to GOOD PARTY. (Hint, hint fellas.)

Next up we have non other than TC of Just Cause. This guy is the party. Everytime I look up he's doing shots or a large group of people seem to be looking towards his pelvic area. Huh? Good times all around.

On the musical selections, we have none other than Supa Qool DJ Uncle Q. The man behind the decks on tour with Low Budget phenoms like Kev Brown, Oddisee and Kokayi. This cat used to have a talk radio show with the "where did he come from" NY's own Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg. He does everything!

All that is almost irrelevant if can't rock a party. But not to worry. Uncle Q is also the man behind Uncle Q's Living Room...long time running party at Blue Room in Adam's Morgan. One of DC's hottest in history. So....

Come out. And it's Free before midnight. $5 after.

Oh yeah....and open bar from 10-11pm. How can you beat that?

Questlove's Bday Party Rescheduled

Despite all our thoughts and prayers....Old Man Winter still chooses to visit whenever he wants. Please post your Bday Wishes for Brother Question in the comments for this post. We are sad.
